This paper focused on studying the synthesisof silicone resin by the traditional hydrolysis-polycondensation method, as wellas emulsion polymerization of methyltrimethoxysilane(MTMS). The structure, particlesize and morphology of silicone resin werecharacterized by fourier transform infrared(FTIR),scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and laser particle size analyzer. At the same time,its applicationin hair conditioner was also studied.
Firstly,silicone resin microsphereswere prepared using hydrolysis-polycondensation method,the influenceof reaction parameters,such as pH value,the ratio of MTMS to water and stir had been investigated.It was foundthat the preferred preparation conditions were pH value 3.0~6.0, ratio of MTMS towater<1:20 in hydrolysis reaction and pH value 8.0~10.0 in condensationreaction.The particle size was decreasedand the distribution became narrow with the increase of pH value in condensationreaction and the decrease of ratio of MTMS to water.The spheric silicone resin was obtained in the condition of condensation reaction withoutstir.
Secondly, silicone resin emulsion was synthesizedthrough the base-catalyzed emulsion polymerizationof MTMS.The effect of the reaction parameters on the conversion of MTMS and stabilityof emulsion were investigated.And appearance of the latex was analyzed by optical microscope.The silicone resin emulsionwith the highest conversion and the best stability Was obtained,its average particlesize was 7μm and the distribution was symmetrica, when the amount of mixed emulsifier(SDSand TX-10) was 30%,the mass ratio of SDS and TX-10 was 2:1, catalyst(NaOH) was 6%,the temperaturewas 80℃ and the reaction time was9h.
Finally,the silicone resin was applied in hair conditioner, all of the results confirmedthat both the hair’S wet and dry combing could be decreased evidently while thehair was dealed with hair conditioner with silicone resin, so it is possible tomake use of silicone resin to improve the function of cosmetics.
